Changes to the Shaw & Associates’ Road to Success
Kevin Shaw

When one door closes another door opens. No truer words have been spoken to describe recent changes at Shaw & Associates as it pertains to our Financial Services practice. As many of you know, Dave has decided to change career paths and to leave the financial services industry. Because of his exceptional client service and dedication to his clients’ needs, as well as being a good friend, I was saddened to learn of his decision. At the same time I am very happy for him as he moves on to pursue his future endeavors. Please join me in wishing him good luck in the future.

At the same time I am pleased to announce that Shaw & Associates has created a referral partnership with John M. Selzer, Jr. and his company Capital Point Financial Group, LTD. John has been a successful advisor for over 26 years and has an extensive resume in his field. His profile and background can be viewed at www.linkedin.com/in/johnselzer/.

One of the attributes you will discover when speaking with John is he has the same client-centered values as all of us at Shaw & Associates. I have known John for longer than he has been in the financial services industry (yes I am that old) and can personally attest to his character and integrity. I am truly excited that he is bringing his talent and skills to bear for Shaw & Associate clients and I am looking forward to working with him well into the future.

Dave Palm’s Farewell

After 5 years working in the financial advising and planning area, I have made the decision it is time that I move on to my next career. I have truly enjoyed many of the interactions I have had with all of you, our clients and various business partners and will miss our conversations. It has been rewarding working with you as you strive to reach your financial goals.

I have heard it said that the average worker today will have 7 to 11 careers over their lifetime. I guess I have a few more to go before I reach that number but none the less I will be embarking on the journey to start down my 3rd career path. I appreciate the knowledge and experience I have learned as a financial advisor.

I look forward to seeing many of you around Fort Collins since I will still be involved in many different community activities. In the meantime, I wish you a prosperous future.

January is National Mentoring Month

Partners Mentoring Youth creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships between positive adult role models and youth facing challenges in their personal, social and/or academic lives. Mentoring, when implemented according to best practices, is a proven and effective strategy in promoting positive youth development; helping youth achieve success long term and become positive, contributing adults. Through mentoring, Partners has been supporting youth in our community who are in most need of that support for almost 35 years, and we have enjoyed getting to know and being involved with this organization over the past several years.

In 2012 Partners served over 480 youth in their mentoring programs! There are consistently over one hundred youth on their wait list, wanting and needing mentors though and Partners is committed to continuing to serve more youth in need. As we ring in the New Year, we join with Partners Mentoring Youth, and mentoring organizations across the country in celebrating National Mentoring Month and promoting the associated goals of raising awareness of the need for mentoring, and encouraging individuals to mentor. There are many ways you could get involved in supporting Partners Mentoring Youth. Learn more by visiting www.partnersmentoringyouth.org or calling (970)484-7123.
